Description
• Reporting to the Director of Major Capital Projects, Facilities Management, the Project Manager will primarily be responsible for daily management and delivery of major capital projects; development and stewardship of major capital facility development opportunities; leadership of external consultants/contractors, and liaison for internal stakeholders for project delivery of major renovations and new construction academic and administrative facilities. • Act as SAIT’s owner representative to numerous industry partners, major capital project stakeholders, consultants and contractors and is ultimately accountable for the project team’s deliverables, including accuracy and efficiencies of overall project execution. • Projects within Major Capital Projects will typically be greater than $25M dollars. • Manage capital projects on a day-to-day basis, working on major capital projects on behalf of the institute with Senior PMs and Project Director, defining scope, creating work plans, coordinate and sequence consultant and contractor activities, determining resource allocation, monitor and control execution, forecast schedule changes, budget and overall quality towards the successful completion of project objectives and key performance indicators. • Manage budgetary projections for capital expenditures for the fiscal year including developing initial specifications and scopes for work performed in conjunction with institutional initiatives and various funding streams including donations, federal research funding and Alberta Infrastructure funding. • Manage tenant fit-out and FF&E installation for operational handover of major projects; being the primary liaison for design consultants, furniture vendors, contractors, and SAIT stakeholders during construction transition towards owner’s operations. • Support Owner’s project management team for best practice project management procedures, including integrated project delivery, progressive design build, design build, fixed price and construction management contracts; contributing to triple bottom line and total cost of ownership accounting, promoting sustainability and accessibility standards and following SAIT Facility Design Guidelines compliance.
Requirements
• Post Secondary Degree in the field of Architecture, Engineering, Interior design or Construction Project Management. • PMP Certification and/or Gold Seal Certification as Owners Construction Manager. • Strong Proficiency in MS Office 365, Archibus, Adobe Suite; Medium Proficiency in CADD, BlueBeam. • Third party certification in facilities, architectural or construction related sustainable designation including LEED, BOMA, WELL, IFMA-SFP, CEM, Rick Hansen, etc. • Minimum of six years' work experience in project management role, with clear understanding of design and construction practices and methodology, for large complex project delivery and partnerships. • Minimum of three years in a supervisory role with proven experience in People and Change management. • Experience as owner’s representative project manager or as client of public sector (academic preferred) projects with emphasis on major capital project development, design and construction execution, and project documentation and reporting. • Experience managing multiple, concurrent projects up to $60 Million+ • Knowledge of both theoretical and practical aspects of construction project management • Experience with FF&E coordination and tenant fitout for large complex, multi-phase projects. • Ability to read and execute construction drawings; evaluate, make decisions regarding quality of design and construction work. • Proven success in leading and delegating to a large team of general contractors, consultants, and in-house resources. • Ability to think strategically to address large, complex issues. • Strong organizational skills with ability to align objectives to tasks, milestones and metrics. • Excellent problem solving, written and verbal communication skills. • Excellent people skills and comfortable with innovation, inherent risk, and progressive change • Experience in organization change management, leading communication and engagement, and building highly effective teams.
